Managers have a very important role in larger organizations. In a nutshell, their responsibility is to create an environment within which teams can autonomously work in coordination with each other in order to achieve the goals of the organization. This is called Middle-Up-Down Management.

Scrum Masters need to take a proactive role in working with mid management to help create such an environment. Scrum Masters need to let managers know what information their teams need in order to be effective. They also need to cooperate with management when requested to provide information needed by other teams.

Scrum Masters represent the guardrails agreements their team makes with the rest of the organization.
